1997 - 2027 : 30 years of struggle !

In 2027, the Romandie Pride returns to Geneva to celebrate its 30 years of struggle.

In Switzerland, the first traces of Pride date back to 1978. The first Swiss Pride march took place in downtown Zurich as a sit-in and openly referenced the Stonewall riots. The event challenged parliament to demand the complete abolition of police surveillance of homosexuals.

In French-speaking Switzerland, it wasn't until 1981 that a homosexual demonstration appeared. It was within the framework of the Lôzane bouge protest movement, initiated by young people in Lausanne who were breaking with the authorities, that the Homomanif 81 came about.

Nevertheless, the first Pride event in French-speaking Switzerland, identified and formally designated as such, took place in 1997 in Geneva. It was in the euphoric atmosphere of the Chez Brigitte gay squat and bar that Geneva Pride was born on a whim.

The 1997 Lesbian and Gay Pride & Friends was like Chez Brigitte, a mixed space combining terrycloth dresses and Doc Martens.
The goal of Pride was to bring everyone together.
